Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to this shiny new blog. I am The Card Shrimp, and please let me take your coats. Would you like a drink?
The idea behind this is to test whether it is actually possible, as many of the overly glamorised poker adverts would have you believe, to start from a bankroll of $0 and turn it into something meaningful.
Now, confession time. No, I am not a complete newbie to the poker world. I've played for a few years (with varying degrees of success) and sort of know what I'm doing. I am hardly the best poker player out there, but I can do okay. I play a nice mix of online and live, however shy away from cash tables. I'm a tight player, cash tables just seem to clash with my style.
The thinking behind doing this is that playing for real money is becoming a tad dull. I don't play for huge stakes live, and frankly online if I pay for more than $20 its a small miracle. I think I've been getting a bit bleurgh about my play recently, and so want a new challenge without staking lots of money. This is it. Can I turn a starting balance of $0 into something worthwhile.
Right, now all that boring stuff is out of the way lets get down to business. Coming up this week will be the rules of engagement and how I plan to do it. Then the fun part begins...
